Are you a Bankrupt?

Hearing the word alone scares people. None of us would want to be a bankrupt when we grow up. Oh wait; do you know what the meaning of Bankrupt at the first place is?

Using Dictionary.com as a reference, Bankrupt means any insolvent debtor. Possibly, a person who could not pay the bills but to sell his car, mortgage his house and next thing he realises, he is only left with clothes to keep him covered for all his life.

But wait, in this post, I’m not highlighting about a Bankrupt-Debtor in that sense but I’m stressing about the Afterlife of a Bankrupt. Sounds new to you eh?

The Prophet (pbuh) once asked his Companions (May Allah be pleased with them),
"Do you know who the bankrupt is?"

The Companions said, "A bankrupt is the one who has neither dirham (money) nor wealth."

The Prophet (pbuh) said: The bankrupt of my Ummah (Nation) is he who would come on the Day of Judgment with lots of prayers, fasts and charities;

BUT

  •     Who had offended a person
  •     Slandered another
  •     Wrongfully taken the wealth of that person
  •     Shed another's blodd
  •     And has beaten still another
  •     So Allah will take rewards of his good deeds & give them to those who had been victimized by him;

If all of his good deeds were finished before their dues were paid their sins will be taken and imposed on him and consequently, he will be thrown into the fire-pit!  (Muslim)

Now, you get where I’m coming from right? Yes. “Bankrupt” in the sense of losing our good deeds.

When I found out about the real meaning of “Bankrupt”, I literally went “Oh-My-I-Should-Refrain-From-Doing-All-Those-Mention-Attributes”. Simply because one could receive many good deeds when he donates money to the mosque, gives food to the needy and volunteer to teach at the orphanage but it all fails when he likes to backbite about his own brother. One could accumulate rewards that easily but could also earn sins without them knowing.

Having said that, every day one should ask Allah for forgiveness. We may not know that what we say to our friends did prick their little hearts. Truthfully, our tongue is the most deadly and dangerous weapon in us. Just by using one wrong or offensive word, our friends will remember it for life.

Till the next entry.
